Jorge Carrión (Spain, 1976)

Writer and literary critic. He has a degree and a Phd in Humanities from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona. He directs, with José María Micó, the BSM-UPF Master in Literary Creation, and was a cultural critic for The New York Times in Spanish. In November 2019, he returned to his Sunday column on the main website of The New York Times. He is the author of numerous books ranging from novel to essay, comic and travel literature. Highlights include Los Muertos (Literatura Mondadori, 2010), a novel awarded by the Chambéry Festival in France and translated into Italian, a novel literary artifact that brings the novel’s genre into dialogue with the television series (part of a tetralogy completed by Los Huérfanos, 2014, Los Turistas, 2015, and Los Difuntos, 2015). And Librerías (Anagrama, 2013), a cultural history and a tour of the world that was a finalist for the Anagrama de Ensayo award and has been translated into more than ten languages. He has published cultural criticism in the supplements of the newspapers Avui, ABC,Perfil, Clarín and La Vanguardia. His articles and reports have appeared in Letras Libres, National Geographic Viajes, Otra Parte, Revista de Occidente, Eñe and Lonely Planet Magazine, Revista Anfibia, among other Hispanic American media. He has been included in literary anthologies from Mexico, Spain, Germany, Cuba and Argentina. He directed the Lo Real collection of Malpaso publishing house, between 2015 and 2017, where he published books by Martín Caparrós, Gabriela Wiener, Alfonso Armada, Lapin, Omer Bartov, among others.
